About Junipers

Junipers restaurant and cafe bar, which is situated on South Street in the centre of Cockermouth, Cumbria, opened in November 2003

After the building was bought by Lee Wilson and Debbie Deakins, having been vacated and left derelict a few years earlier by agricultural iron mongers who had used the building as a shop and storage warehouse for many years, they undertook a major renovation,.

Renowned for the contemporary food, the ambience and service, Junipers is the place to go in Cockermouth. The food is fresh and imaginative, prepared by the chef/owner and his team.

Lee and Debbie had previously run another restaurant in Cockermouth for eleven years, and had decided they would like to move on to larger premises. Debbie runs the front of house whilst Lee takes charge of the kitchen.

The tradition of serving tapas with drinks is a custom that has spread from Spain to all the major cities of Europe and beyond, even here in Cockermouth! The word 'tapas' actually means 'lid', for in times past every glass of sherry bought in a local Spanish bar would come covered by a slice of bread topped with ham, cheese or fried black pudding to keep out the flies. Junipers have created their version of tapas, a sample of which is shown on a separate page. They are served in the evenings in the bar as light snacks.
